Time flies when work feels like play!
I’m very proud to share our latest 3-Woman show, Hues of Nostalgia! Together with my co-artists, glass sculptor Anna Orlina & painter Abby Anover, our collection celebrates the deeply intimate and universally shared feeling of nostalgia. Under the direction of our curator Gab Loste, we dove deep into past eras—capturing the mood of the times through color palettes and bold strokes.

As usual, vernissage night was a total blur—thank you so much to all the patrons and friends who visited! Opening an exhibit is always such a wild experience. After growing these works in the privacy of my studio for months on end, words can’t express how insanely vulnerable it feels to showcase them publicly. My presentation for this year’s ManilArt sent me time traveling through my favorite eras. I couldn’t choose just one, so I surfed through the 20’s, 60’s, 70’s 80’s, 90’s and 2000’s. In the process, I came up with 2 collections!

My neon and pastels collection is called GIRLYPOP. Reconnecting with my childhood and teenage obsessions, the aura of these works is that of the 80's meets 2000's. I grew up in the 90's, which is in between these 2 as both the past and the future, so these colorways really take me back in a joyful way.
As a child, I was obsessed with bright colors and collecting miniature toys like Polly Pocket, which were small worlds of their own. My miniature sized paintings are meant to evoke that sense of worlds being contained within a little space. I drew major inspiration from my favorite films, like 13 Going on 30, particularly the playful and vibrant palettes of the characters’ outfits.
On a deeper level, my work has always been about how all of reality is a mirror, including nostalgia. What we feel nostalgic towards reflects our tastes, the era we were born and grew up in, what delights our young self. Even the things we love today, becomes what we’re nostalgic about tomorrow. Cue Future Nostalgia by Dua Lipa!
I’m so grateful for how well-received this collection has been so far. I’ll cover my second collection in the next Studio Notes, as I have to head over to the fair as we speak. If you’re interested to visit this weekend, reply to this email & I can help secure you tickets :)
Hope to meet some of you in person!
XOXO
