And just like that, it’s been almost 3 weeks since I opened my solo exhibit at Altro Mondo Creative Space! A big thank you goes out to those who were present at the opening event! And of course, to my art patrons who purchased pieces, thank you so much. It’s always an honor to know that my piece found a new home in good hands where they’ll truly be appreciated! For those curious, pieces are still available & you can browse the catalog here.

The feeling of relief and release after launching a project is priceless. I felt tense for most of August in preparation mode. What actually happened was the gallery reached out saying they had a last minute cancellation on their September slot, and would I like to take it? YES. It was a huge leap of faith but I’m so glad I went for it.

In life, I learned that certain doors only seem to open when you’ve finally evolved into the version of yourself who is meant to walk through them. In my case, I was lucky the gallery wanted to show my existing paintings from different bodies of work collected over the seasons. Without any expectations, I emailed them a few available studio pieces some months ago, and when the slot opened up they remembered me—which is why you should always shoot your shot, cold emails and all, because you never know when a seed you’ve planted will suddenly bear fruit!

Sea of Stories showcases some of my favorite pieces from 2020-2023, including some milestone brand collab pieces from Manila Bulletin & Samsung Philippines. Of course, I still made new art especially for this exhibit. I really made an effort to put out my best works paired with my poetry, and I think the energy showed! In a nutshell, it is a reflection of my journey thus far and how this led me back to the wisdom that beyond the level of ego, at the level of spirit, we are all connected. We are all waves in the same ocean.

As an artist, half the battle is pushing through the imposter syndrome that comes with each scary step forward. Sometimes I have so many different stories I want to tell, that I end up not sharing any at all. But whenever I let courage lead, it’s always rewarding. Because at the end of the day, it’s about self-expression and the connection that follows from allowing your art to be seen.

I was reflecting on how apt it is to call the opening event an ‘artist reception’— because it’s a special time for the artist to allow their work to be received by the public, and to allow themselves to receive too, in return. I was floored by the amount of people who surprised me with their presence that day—what a gift community is!
Sea of Stories will be on display until October 5 Saturday, in Altro Mondo Creative Space in Chino Roces! You still have 2 Saturdays left to catch my artworks (and maybe me in the flesh? DM @polipaints or reply to this email if you want to schedule an exhibit walk through with me!
Thank you, dear reader for being a part of this story. As usual, the rest is still unwritten!
